Information on Roses
PLANTING:
1) Dig hole about the same depth as root ball or slightly smaller, so that the root ball is even or slightly above soil level hole should be 1 ½ times the diameter
.2) Back fill with MASTER NURSEY BUMPER CROP humus or leaf compost mixed with top soil at 50/50 mix.
3) Remove plant from container using a knife to score vertically down the pot.
4) Set plant in hole with back fill soil mix, pressing or tamping lightly to hold plant in place. Making sure top of root ball is even or slightly above soil level.
5) Water root ball and surrounding soil thoroughly to settle soil and remove air pockets. Watering should be done with a mix of MASTER NURSEY Root Stimulator, at one cap Full to one gallon of water.
6) Mulch should be done at 2" in depth with HOFFMAN COCOA SHELL MULCH the best for roses. Should be 3"--4" from stem of the rose.
FERTILIZING:
Should be done with any one of these fine products SCOTTS Rose food, MIRACLE - GRO For Roses or MASTER NURSEY ROSE FOOD.
WATERING:
Water deeply once a week in the springWater deeply twice a week in hot weather
DISEASE PROBLEMS:
Symptoms:
Leaves fold at mid -rib, or are distorted. White powdery material appears on the roses Buds and leaf top or bottom.
Analysis:
Powdery mildew—caused by cool nights, warm days and high humidity.
Remedy
ORTHO ROSEPRIDE Funginex rose & shrub disease control.
Symptoms:
Dark black spots on leaves the spots tend to be round and varying in size from Pinpoint to quarter size. Half of the yellow leaves drop or leaf turns yellow and makes the Roses looks ugly.
Analysis:
Black spot, this is a fungus favored by RAINY weather or improper watering.
Remedy
ORTHO Rose pride Funginex rose & shrub Disease control, ORTHO Daconil or ORTHO Orthenex.
INSECT PROBLEMS:
Symptoms:
Blooms are shredded, discolored or buds distorted.
Analysis:
THRIPS
Remedy:
ORTHO Orthenex Insect & disease, ORTHO ISTOX or ORTHO ORTHENE.
Symptoms:
Leaves have been eaten leaving either skeleton structure or midribs. Unopened Buds chewed and open buds damaged.
Analysis:
Japanese Beetles
Remedy: SEVIN,ORTHO INSECT CONTROL,SAFER INSECTICIDAL SOAP
.
Symptoms:
Leaves appear fuzzy yellow on surface, underside has the small red specks, webbing or spider like Insects moving about. (The insects will be very small)
Analysis:
Spider mites or 2 spot spider mites
Remedy:
INSECTICIDAL SOAP, ORTHO GARDEN INSECT CONTROL, ORTHO MALATHION or SCHULTZ ROSE & FLOWER SPRAY
