Tips for February
TREES & SHRUBS
Continue to prune, spray dormant oil, and take hardwood cuttings from dormant plants. Bring indoors pruned branches of forsythia and pussy willow to force flowering.
ROSES
Check any winter protection you applied to roses and secure stakes and ties. Place orders for spring planting.
LAWNS
Avoid walking on bare, frozen lawns. Snow provides a cushion for foot traffic.
WATCH FOR
Over wintering pests.
Control:
ORTHO Dormant Disease Control Lime-Sulfur Spray can be mixed with VOLCK® Oil Spray MASTER NURSEY PESTKILLER for a combination winter spray during the dormant season. This combination spray not only kills scale insects and over wintering insect eggs, but also kills over wintering spores of fungi which cause black spot, powdery mildew and rust on roses. Spray when temperature exceeds 40° F (5° C). Check to make sure your plant is listed on the label.
